2011 Videos

Highlights of some of our sportfishing charters in 2011.

Captain Joe and the Sea Star Crew took a busman’s holiday and went fishing— of course! They enjoyed a beautiful flat calm summer like day. This was a very productive catch and release winter bass trip. A great way to start the new year!

Phil Wirthman and his extended family, daughter and grand children, came down from northern California for an exciting day of late fall sportfishing which included some really nice sized sheepshead and sand bass.  We were also very fortunate to encounter the largest extended pod of dolphins during this past year.  There were literally thousands of dolphins spread out over a six mile area.  We had dolphins bow riding with us for nearly an hour!

We had Dave and his 15 year old son, Nick, fishing with us over the Thanksgiving holiday. This was their first trip to California from Plymouth, Mass. We all had lots to give thanks for on this day as you can see by the accompanying video!

On the first day of summer, June 21, we took a family out to go on a private sportfishing trip. We had the rare opportunity to encounter both the common dolphin and the risso dolphin swimming in the same pod. We caught several nice calico bass and sand bass along with a 35 pound bat ray!

Craig Campbell and his wonderful family had a wonderful day catching calico bass and halibut! The weather was great for a private charter, and the fishing couldn’t have been more active.

Hey guys! We want to thank Simplot Partners for coming out with us last week! We would also like to thank their sponsors: Simplot Partners, BASF, Syngenta, and Bayer. These men had a great trip and caught some huge bass on their private charter out of Oceanside.

We also had Leon Sims and his family come out on their private charter. This is the 28th year in a row for Mr. Sims! Congratulations to everyone on such great fishing.

This was Shawn‘s first legal sized halibut caught on board the Sea Star! He was member of the Deric Terrell United Studios of Self Defense Charter on Sunday July 24th, 2011. Shawn was accompanied by his father, Dave Thomas, who recorded this special event. A great time was had by all on this private sportfishing charter on board the Sea Star!

Take a look at our catch! We caught a huge thresher shark on a Shakespeare rod and a Penn reel. We also caught several sheepshead. It was a privilege to ride along with some dolphins.

This week we had Paul Shutt and his friends, Mike Oschin and family, and Bob Erie’s E-World Recyclers. We had some good fishing during shark week.

Dr. Cool, from Best in the West A/C, brought his friends and employees out with us. We all had a great time catching fish and watching the whale frenzy. It really was a great day on the ocean. Glenn Evans celebrated his 50th birthday by catching some great bass. His family and friends celebrated his birthday in style!

Anglers in the Son, from Calvary Chapel Oceanside, had a wonderful time this past Saturday. The fishing was wonderful, and everyone had a great time.

Captain Joe and Crew had a great time with all the boys and girls in this year’s summer fishing program. We look forward to continuing this tradition in 2012! We want to give a shout out to Bob Vettel with the Dept. of Parks and Recreation and John Rowe with Friends of Rollo. At the Friends of Rollo, our mission is simple: we want to introduce fishing to children who might not otherwise have such an opportunity in hopes that fishing becomes something that changes their lives. We’d like them to experience a day of beauty and nature while out on the water and have the chance to see something they might otherwise never witness. Dolphins swimming in the bow’s wake, whales surfacing for air, sea lions playing around the boat- these are a few of the pleasures a day at sea can provide and are experiences that truly broaden a child’s horizons.

Fall season inshore action on board the Sea Star!

The fishing is going well as you can see! We have had a great week and plan to continue to catch the fish like we always do.

Here are a few highlights from our July 9th and 10th weekend.

This past week, fishing was great both in shore for bass and in deeper waters for red snapper and grouper. Everyone had a great time.
